School Council
Our School Council at Riverside Primary School take an active role in activities in school. At the beginning of each school year two children in each class, from Year 1 upwards, are voted for by the children in their class. The photographs of our School Council are displayed in the corridor.
The role of a School Councillor is to represent the views of the children in their class and to help make decisions about improvements to the running of the school. They attend regular meetings in school and sometimes events that are held out of school. They plan events for fundraising days such as Children in Need, Christmas Jumper Day and Sports Relief. We will also be exploring ways to promote environmental awareness in school.
Children are encouraged to share their ideas with the school councillors. They listen to the ideas, suggestions and concerns of pupils in school and help them write these down. These then get discussed at School Council meetings, held once a month, and councillors will decide what they can do to help make our school an even happier place to learn. This can include talking to teachers about ideas for after school clubs or Mrs Yilmaz about resources for school. School Councillors also support pupils in the playground.
